Country Singer Denounces Violence Minutes After Shooting

(BrightPress.org) – Cody Johnson had a powerful message for his fans after an attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life. At Chicago’s Windy City Smokeout on July 13th, Johnson told the crowd to solve their problems with a ballot, not a bullet.

Minutes after Trump was shot onstage during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Johnson took the stage. Video on social media shows him delivering an impassioned speech, calling it despicable that any American would think trying to kill a political candidate solves anything. Johnson stressed that the only way to enact real change is by voting, not by firing shots.

Johnson voiced his frustration with the hatred and division, saying he’s tired of the Trump vs. Biden battle. He noted that some of his audience supports Trump, others support Biden, and that’s perfectly fine because every American has that right.

Johnson said it’s the right of Americans to believe what they want. Johnson led the crowd in a rendition of “God Bless America” and talked about his upbringing. He emphasized that he doesn’t care about people’s individual voting preferences. He’s backing the old red, white, and blue, a sentiment that the audience loved.

The attempted assassination of Trump has inflamed many but also led to a moment of peace between the dueling political parties. Many Democrats, from President Biden to former President Obama and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, wished Trump well. Cody Johnson seems to want to see more of that in politics as the days count down to the 2024 presidential election.

While some country artists like John Rich stoked conspiracy theories online, Johnson made an emotional plea for unity.

Trump had barely begun his speech at a Pennsylvania rally when shots were fired. He got a wound to his ear, and Secret Service snipers quickly shot the alleged attacker. Trump was taken to a nearby hospital. The shooter, a 20-year-old from Pennsylvania, was declared dead, along with a bystander at the rally. Two other people are in critical condition at a hospital in Pittsburgh.
