(BrightPress.org) – John Herbert Strand, a participant in the January 6 Capitol riot, will be liberated from federal prison later this month. A judge granted his second motion for release on July 15.
In 2022, Strand was found guilty of obstructing an official proceeding, a felony, along with several misdemeanors. These included entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly conduct in restricted areas and the Capitol, and parading or demonstrating in the Capitol.
Strand’s profile on X, formerly known as Twitter, describes him as a political prisoner. He claims his imprisonment resulted from his presence at the Capitol on January 6 as a bodyguard for Dr. Simone Gold, who intended to give a speech on medical freedom. Gold, the founder of America’s Frontline Doctors, is known for her anti-vaccine stance.
Strand was allegedly protecting Dr. Gold during the riot. The federal affidavit filed in 2021 states that both Gold and Strand joined a crowd that forcibly entered the Capitol. Gold served a 60-day sentence for her misdemeanor charge of entering and remaining in a restricted building.
Gold has publicly praised Strand’s bravery and integrity, stating that he stood by his beliefs despite the consequences.
Gold commented on Strand’s pending release, highlighting the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that the DOJ misapplied the obstruction charge against January 6 defendants. This ruling played a significant role in Strand’s motion for release being granted.
District Judge Christopher Cooper approved Strand’s second motion on July 6, shortly after the Supreme Court’s decision. Strand is scheduled for release on July 24 and will be placed on probation.
Expressing gratitude on X, Strand thanked his supporters for their backing during his imprisonment.
John Strand’s journey through the legal system has been tumultuous. His supporters view him as a hero who stood up for what he believed in, even in the face of severe legal challenges. As he steps out of prison, his future remains uncertain, but his resolve and commitment to his cause have not wavered.
