Former CIA Official Issues Warning: Open Border Terror Risk

(BrightPress.org) – The risk of a major terror attack in the U.S. is extremely high, especially in big cities like New York City and Washington, D.C. Experts are warning about the increased danger.

The southern border presents an opportunity for terrorists with the influx of 10 to 20 million illegals into the country with little or no vetting. There has also been a recent capture of eight Tajikistan nationals with ties to ISIS who crossed the southern border illegally. The fact that millions of unvetted people are streaming across the border post-9/11 is utterly incomprehensible.

Former CIA Deputy Director Mike Morrell voiced similar worries in a recent Foreign Affairs op-ed. Morrell stated that the terror threat due to weaknesses at the U.S.-Mexico border is critically high. FBI Director Christopher Wray and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Gen. Michael Kurilla highlighted serious threats from terrorist groups like al-Qaeda, ISIS, and ISIS-K, the ISIS affiliate operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Paul Mauro, a retired NYPD inspector with nearly 15 years in counterterrorism, believes a perfect storm is forming. Mauro believes that any potential new attack should be assessed in a criminal context, focusing on who has the means, motive, and opportunity to successfully execute a deadly plot.

Wray testified that the threat from foreign terrorists has risen to another level. He mentioned that the FBI has disrupted multiple terrorist attacks in cities and communities across the country. He highlighted a rogues’ gallery of foreign terrorist organizations calling for attacks on the U.S. and its allies.

Attorney General Merrick Garland warned of the increasing terror threat. Mauro emphasized that New York City and Washington, D.C. remain top targets, with other densely packed cities also at risk. The type of terror attack is anyone’s guess, but biochemical agents are a significant concern. The damage caused by something like COVID-19 underscores the potential devastation.

The warning lights from the pre-9/11 era are flashing again. The situation at the southern border is a significant factor. The question is whether America will be caught asleep at the wheel once more.
