(BrightPress.org) – Sixty-six-year-old Marc Shultz from Chula Vista, California has been indicted for making death threats against Fani Willis in livestream videos posted on YouTube. Investigators believe Shultz targeted Willis, the Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney for prosecuting former president Donald Trump for allegedly attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia.
The videos were posted on YouTube on October 4th and 5th of 2023. Shultz allegedly made comments during the videos that indicated he would violently murder Willis. He is accused of using racial slurs and saying Willis “will be killed like a dog.”
Trump’s legal team attempted to have Willis removed from the Fulton County case for hiring Nathan Wade, a person Willis was involved with romantically, as a special prosecutor. Judge Scott McAfee ruled that Willis could continue prosecuting Trump only if Wade stepped aside. Wade resigned in March “in the interest of democracy.” Trump and other defendants are challenging this ruling. The case was delayed and is still in limbo with no trial date set.
Willis thanked U.S. Attorney Ryan Buchanan for bringing the charges against Shultz. Buchanan stated that sending death threats to public officials is a “criminal offense that will not be tolerated.” Buchanan promised to work with federal, state, and local law enforcement to ensure the safety of public officials while “performing their duties.”
Schultz appeared before a judge in San Diego on Thursday. He was released on bail and will be formally arraigned in Atlanta in June.
Trump has a history of speaking out on his social media platform, Truth Social, against prosecutors, witnesses, and judges in his current criminal cases. The former president made several posts about Willis, calling her racist and “out to get” him. The judge implemented a gag order to limit Trump’s “lashing out.”
Trump adamantly insists the many criminal charges against him are nothing more than politically motivated attempts to hinder his 2024 presidential campaign.
