Trump Roasted on SNL for Business Venture

(BrightPress.org) – In true Saturday Night Live fashion, Donald Trump was ruthlessly roasted for his newest business venture: selling Bibles.

The most recent SNL episode, hosted by Ramy Youssef, aired a cold open sketch with James Austin Johnson portraying Donald Trump. The Easter weekend sketch showed Johnson portraying Trump, exiting a tomb to sell his “God Bless the USA Bible” for the “high price of $60.”

The sketch is in response to Trump’s recent announcement that he has partnered with country music musician Lee Greenwood to sell a God Bless the USA Bible; a King James Bible that comes with the lyrics from Greenwood’s song “God Bless the U.S.A., and includes copies of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance. Copies of the unique Bible sell for $60.

SNL comedians joked that Trump compares himself to Jesus with Johnson’s Trump impression, saying “That’s just the thing I do now.” Johnson’s character also mocked the $60 price tag saying, “I’m not doing this for the money. I’m doing this for the glory of God and for pandering and mostly for money.” Johnson also pitched a free Miracle Trump Toaster that would toast the image of Trump’s face onto one side of the bread and Hello Kitty on the other.

Trump was openly criticized for his move to sell Bibles. One host from ABC’s “The View” called the venture “hypocrisy at its most religious.” Liz Cheney commented that Trump should “read what the Bible says about adultery.”

Lee Greenwood dismissed the criticism saying it comes “just from the Trump haters.”

President Joe Biden was not immune from SNL’s weekend antics. The show’s Weekend Update Desk covered Biden’s Radio City fundraiser. Host Michael Che quipped that Joe Biden was one of the “lesser-known celebrities” to be featured at the event.

Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, and Jordan Klepper also took turns roasting Trump on-air for his Bible sales endeavor.
