(BrightPress.org) – The distinguished WWE wrestler, Sika Anoa’i, died at the age of 79 on June 25th, with the exact cause of death remaining undisclosed.
Anoa’i was the father of the legendary wrestler Roman Reigns and inspired him to take up wrestling as a profession.
He started his career in the 1970s, teamed up with his brother Arthur “Afa” Anoa’i Sr., and dominated the rings under the Wild Samoans tag team. During their decades-long career, the tag team won three WWE tag team tournaments and eventually earned its place in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2012, the tag team was also inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.
His nephew, Jahrus Anoa’i, announced the departure of his uncle, stating that he “passed away peacefully,” and that he made a remarkable impact throughout his life. Anoa’i also stated that while his uncle is known for his wrestling performances, he was also a distinguished human being and won the hearts of countless individuals.
Superstar Roman Reigns thanked everyone who paid condolences to his grieved family, adding that his father will always be remembered as the legend of the Wild Samoans tag team. While Reigns stated that nothing in the world can fill the gap that his father has left in this world, he and his siblings will still try their best to carry on his legacy.
Apart from being a professional wrestler, Sika was also a teacher who inspired a whole generation of wrestlers to take up the sport. He co-founded a wrestling training facility with his brother, which produced many legendary wrestlers, including Batista.
WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi also sent his tribute to his uncle Sika, who played a major role in shaping his career. Rikishi remembered Sika as a “confidant” and a “trusted advisor” whose advice helped him to succeed in life. He further stated that his uncle always asked him to slow down and enjoy things as they happen.
