Bernie Sanders Seeks Senate Re-election and Ends the Retirement Rumors

(BrightPress.org) – Senator Bernie Sanders has confirmed that he will be running for a fourth senate term this year. Eighty-two-year-old Sanders is an Independent who caucuses with Democrats in Vermont. Sanders is known for his liberal politics and progressive ideas. For forty years Sanders has championed causes such as climate change, universal healthcare, fairer tax rates, and a higher minimum wage.

Sanders announced his bid for re-election with a video posted on social media. He called the upcoming presidential election between Joe Biden and Donald Trump “the most important national election in our lifetimes.” Sanders said the “stakes are enormous” and “we must not lose.” According to Sanders, November’s elections are a “fight for democracy and equity.”

Sanders touted his role in lowering prescription prices, obtaining better access to healthcare for veterans, easing the student debt burden, and combating climate change. He touched on current hot political topics such as the economy, reproductive rights, and the ever-present threat of climate change. Sanders believes his position as chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee along with his decades of experience provide him with the edge needed to help citizens in Vermont.

The Jewish Senator has recently been speaking out and criticizing the Israeli government for the war against Hamas. He said during his reelection announcement video that Israel does have the right to defend itself but does not have the right to go to war against all Palestinian people. Sanders wants the war to end immediately. He wants massive amounts of humanitarian aid sent to Gaza. He said the U.S. should cease sending money to Israel’s Prime Minister and called Benjamin Netanyahu an extremist. Sanders openly stated that he “very strongly” disagrees with how Biden has been handling the war in Gaza.

If Sanders wins reelection in Vermont, and it is presumed that he will, he will be 89 at the end of his term.

Sanders also mentioned Donald Trump, calling him the most dangerous president in American history.
