(BrightPress.org) – The father of a fallen Marine was arrested for disrupting President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address on Thursday night, March 7th. During Biden’s speech, 51-year-old Steve Nikoui began yelling “Abbey Gate!” and “Second Battalion, First Marines!” Nikoui was referencing an attack that occurred during the U.S. military’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. The surprise attack at the Abbey Gate of Hamid Karzai International Airport killed 13 U.S. service members, including Steve Nikoui’s son, Marine Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui.
Security approached and demanded the grieving father cease his outburst, but Nikoui refused and continued shouting. Capitol Police then removed Nikoui from the House Galleries. Nikoui was arrested and charged with Crowding, Obstructing or Incommoding. The charge is a misdemeanor and requires the offender to pay a $50 fine.
Steve Nikoui was attending the SOTU as a guest of Florida Representative Brian Mast. Mast, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Accountability and Oversight, said he invited Nikoui to remind President Biden of the “damage he has done” to American families and national security.
Steve Nikoui’s ex-wife and the mother of Kareem Nikoui, Shana Chappell, said she did not watch the SOTU because she “has a bad taste” for President Biden, but was alerted to Steve’s arrest by messages from friends. Chappell blames President Biden for the death of her son Kareem as well as the death of Kareem’s older brother, Dakota Halverson. Halverson took his own life while grieving for his younger brother.
Chappell said she wants the Biden administration and the military advisors “gone.” She wants them out of office. Chappell also stated that if she found herself in the position to speak to President Joe Biden, she would ask him why he has never said the names of the 13 “heroes” who lost their lives the day her son Kareem was killed in Afghanistan. According to Chappell, Joe Biden is a “failure” and he is “destroying our country.”
