Five Dead in Murder-Suicide

(BrightPress.org) – Police say a Texas man shot and killed his estranged wife and multiple other relatives who were at the home at the time, including an 8-year-old girl, outside of Houston early Saturday morning, January 20th. After killing four of his relatives, he turned the weapon on himself.

Alrick Shawn Barrett, 46, was in the process of returning the couple’s younger child after a visit, according to Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan. Fagan indicated that their investigation suggested Barrett was attempting to reconcile differences with his estranged wife, but she rebuffed and refused his advances.

Barrett’s 13-year-old nephew called 911 after the shots were fired. The boy hid along with another 7-year-old child during the attack and escaped harm. Barrett’s mother-in-law was also in the home and survived the attack unharmed.

Barrett shot and killed his wife, 44, her brother, 43, and 46-year-old sister. Fagan said his office wasn’t releasing their names at this early stage in the investigation. Fagan indicated that some of the extended family lived in the home while others were over for a visit.

Fagan indicated that Barrett and his wife had gotten into a heated domestic dispute in January 2023 that resulted in a police visit to the residence. Fagan said they were continuing to research Barrett, but couldn’t find any other criminal records for him at the time.

Police declined to say what kind of firearm was used in the shooting, citing an ongoing investigation.

Another murder-suicide is under investigation in Michigan that resulted in the deaths of three people. Two women, aged 75 and 51, were found dead along with the body of a man, 54, who had a pistol near his body. Police are investigating it as a murder-suicide. Their bodies were discovered on Monday, January 15th.

A member of the NYPD killed his two sons and wife along with himself in yet another murder-suicide in NYC on Friday, December 29th. Watson Morgan, 49; his wife Ornella, 43; and their two sons, aged 10 and 12, were all found dead from gunshots after Morgan failed to appear for a shift.
