(BrightPress.org) – Despite attempts in Colorado and Maine to remove Trump from the 2024 primary ballot, Michigan’s state Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from a lower court’s decision to keep him on.
The announcement came down on Wednesday, December 27th, with the state’s highest court declaring that the arguments were not persuasive enough to require them to weigh in. In doing so, they affirmed the lower courts’ decisions, meaning Trump will appear on the 2024 primary ballot.
The decision followed a controversial ruling from the Colorado Supreme Court that Trump was ineligible to appear on the 2024 ballot due to his participation in an ‘insurrection’ on January 6th, 2021. The all-Democrat-appointed court was nonetheless divided 4:3 in favor of removal, while the dissenting justices wrote a scathing critique of their colleagues’ ruling.
Justice Carlos Samour notably highlighted that a civil lawsuit to remove a candidate from a ballot is an inappropriate venue to litigate the question. He further said that kicking him off the ballot for an offense which he hasn’t been convicted of in any court of law “flies in the face of due process.”
Justice Maria Berkenkotter warned that the manner in which Trump was ‘removed’ from the ballot in this case seemingly has no limits and could be applied to any wildly popular candidate.
Worth noting, that Colorado decision itself was stayed pending input from SCOTUS, the stay is in effect until January 4th, 2024. Despite the headlines claiming “Trump removed from Colorado ballots” he actually hasn’t been, at least not yet. With the Michigan case being thrown out while Colorado attempts to bar him off the ballot, it’s obvious that SCOTUS will have to weigh in, and soon.
Dozens of activists across multiple states are engaged in a similar type of lawfare, attempting to use the legal system to bar Trump from appearing on the ballot despite his wild popularity at the polls. The groups are either directly or indirectly affiliated with the Democratic party, and the plaintiffs in the Colorado case were funded by infamous billionaire George Soros. Soros is known for funding ultra-left district attorneys who refuse to enforce the law in major American cities.
